Maintenance and Upkeep Guide for Bissell CrossWave 1785 Vacuum Cleaners

The Bissell CrossWave 1785 Vacuum Cleaner series was introduced in 2006 and quickly gained popularity for its efficient design and powerful suction. CrossWave is an upright style cleaner that does it all; multi-surface, wet and dry. Bissell vacuum cleaners are highly praised for their durability and performance, but like any vacuum cleaner, they require regular maintenance to keep them running smoothly. The cleaner you keep the engine, the longer this machine can last you. If you own a Bissell CrossWave, this guide will help you get your money's worth.

Top Performing Components

Maintaining your CrossWave vacuum cleaner is vital if you want it to last. It's crucial to replace certain parts when they wear out; fortunately, some parts are easy to replace. The brush roll and the HEPA vacuum filter should be replaced depending on the frequency of use, but the standard time frame is 2-3 months. You can also wash and reuse the brush roll, which makes it a little more cost-effective in the long run!

Brush Roll

The Bissell brush roll is made of blue and white microfibers with orange bristles. This is the part that is placed at the bottom of the vacuum cleaner at the opening, so dirt particles pass through it as you vacuum surfaces. It can pick up dry debris and also function as a mop and scrub. The engine propels its movement at a powerful rate of 3000 RPM. What more could you ask for?

But all good things must come to an end. After about 2-3 months' worth of regular use, the brush roll becomes clogged with dirt, hair, and debris and won't function as effortlessly as it did before. These parts do need to be replaced, but the good thing is that the brush roll can be washed and reused multiple times.

Replacement Process

Wash the brush roll with cold water and a mild household detergent. Rinse it thoroughly and let it air dry before putting it back in the vacuum cleaner. It is okay to use if the brush roll is damp since it is designed to handle wet surfaces.

The OEM part number is 1608683. Using any vacuum cleaner parts with this unit that do not come directly from Bissell immediately voids the warranty. However, opting to use aftermarket or replacement parts is significantly affordable in comparison. It depends on what your priority is; while some want to keep their warranty, others prefer to save money, which is fine!

Aftermarket or "replacement" parts come from a third-party seller that is not affiliated with the original manufacturer. It is not the "official" part but functions very similarly. The most affordable replacement Bissell brush roll on the market sold by LifeSupplyUSA can be found here.

HEPA Vacuum Filter

The HEPA filter is located near the brush roll. Its purpose is to remove 99.97% of dirt, dust, and allergens that are 0.03 microns or larger from the air. This makes it an essential part of the vacuum cleaner for people who suffer from allergies or asthma.

The HEPA filter should also be replaced every 2-3 months, depending on how often you use the vacuum cleaner. You can tell it's time to replace the filter when the suction power decreases or if you see dirt and debris escaping the vacuum cleaner.

Replacement Process

You can also wash and reuse this filter as much as needed. To replace the filter, first, locate it in the compartment near the brush roll. Then, release the latch and pull the old filter out. Put the new filter in and ensure it is secure before putting the compartment cover back on.

Dual Water Tanks

Now there's only one maintenance duty left: Replacing the water tanks. The CrossWave comes with two water tanks - one for clean water and one for dirty water. These need to be replaced depending on how often you use the vacuum cleaner.

One of the biggest complaints about this vacuum cleaner is the frequency of changing the tanks. As a small and compact vacuum cleaner, the CrossWave tanks also run small, and it can be a hassle to change them all the time. Nevertheless, it is a necessary part of your CrossWave's upkeep, and a little give and take is needed for such a fantastic tool.

Replacement Process

To replace the clean water tank, first, remove it from the unit by pressing the release button and lifting it. Then, insert the new clean water tank into the unit until you hear it click.

To replace the dirty water tank, first, remove it from the unit by pressing the release button and lifting it. Then, insert the new dirty water tank into the unit until you hear it click. Ensure that the dirty water tank is inserted into the unit correctly so the contaminated water will not leak out.
